Design question of the day – “How do I make an inspiration board without having to glue the pictures?”

Hello there HomeRefiners, I hope you had a wonderful weekend and were able to throw yourselves back into this week with lots of energy.  It is so beautiful here today and I am enjoying every second of this beautiful blue sky.

I was asked today how to you create an inspiration board on a bedroom’s wall with tons of photos intertwined, without having to glue them?

So of course my head started spinning and I started pinning.  I came across quite a few stylish ideas that also inspired me to create an inspiration board this weekend.  I am sure, I must have some pretty fabric and ribbons laying around somewhere.  Have you ever made one of those?  I love them and I love that you can give it your personal touch whether you want a small colorful board or a life size, classic one.  The choice is yours to create your piece of art.   For instructions on how to make them, check out the sweet blog by Christine Chitnis

Thanks for this great question!  If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to post them on my facebook page

Enjoy your Monday!

DIY Weekend – Gold Polka Dots Mouse Pad

Did you know it’s better to use a real mouse pad than the little tracking thing on your laptop?  Yup!  I didn’t know either until that day I could barely move my wrist from being on my computer waaaay too much!  Only thing is though, mouse pads look really ugly in general.  The best I got once was a black one with some white text on it.  Not bad, color wise except that the text said ‘White Trailer Trash’, yeah I know.

I was pretty happy when I saw this little DIY project as I have one of those exact cork IKEA thingies.   So ‘bye, bye’ ordinary mouse pads.  As a matter of fact, I am thinking, I could also just spray paint them in any color I like.   What do you think of this DIY idea?

DIY Weekend – Light Bulb Vase

Make your creativity shine through like a light bulb! Literally! Take a simple light bulb and make it into a vase.  How cute and definitely one-of-a-kind.

Some of the light bulb vases have been designed with what looks like a garden inside it. Aside from the sand and the plants, the designer even managed to squeeze in tiny animal figurines like the panda and crocodile.

And what about those adorable little hot air balloons to hang from the ceiling?  So fun and easy!  All you need to do is use colorful fabrics with cute prints for the covering, a little plastic bottle top and add a little glitter.  Have fun!!

DIY Weekend – Branches

Branches? They look good on trees all right. But you know what? You can also find other use for them! And I don’t mean as firewood.  If you will, a branch can also serve as a tissue holder in your rest room! No I’m not kidding. It can be done. See, not only is this idea unique, it is eco-friendly as well!  So, now you know exactly what to do next time you come across a fallen branch.  Now, who’s got the hippest eco friendly bathroom on the block?

DIY Weekend – Flash and Splash Porcelain

I don’t know what it is but I have a deep love for fuchsia.  I think it all started a few years back when Madonna wore that pink little blouse during her confessions on the dance floor tour.  Another thing I have a deep love for is easy DIY projects.  I am all for the result, not so much into the scrubbing, the sanding and the mess it brings with it so I must I admit I went more than just wow! and oh! when I saw this super simple DIY idea.  It looks so straightforward and even though I am sort of in a fuchsia stage right now, this could be done in so many other colors.  So… am off to the thrift shop around my corner to get ready for a little DIY fun this weekend!

DIY Weekend – Poetry Candle

These self-made candleholders remind me of the Inn at the Seventh Ray based in Topanga Canyon.  A place that I visited years ago when I was living in LA and fell in love with instantly.  The place has this very fairy like ambiance outside and the all natural food is like heaven for ones palette.  I love how you can dine just next to the creek and with its tiny little lights all around you; it feels as you can hear the Elves whisper evening poems.  If you live in LA and you haven’t yet had a chance to visit this place, you can find all of their info here.  Do you know of any similar magic places like this one, in other parts of the world?

DIY Weekend – Gold Polka Dots

I am so happy because I found porcelain markers in so many different colors today.  Can’t wait to make one of those glamour cups!  How cute are these?  Seems like such an easy, little DIY project for the weekend.  I think I am also going to use gold.  Should I make one with stripes as well?  Just use some masking tape and draw in between the lines.  Or I could go all out, use all the colors I got and go rainbowy.  So many options.

Have you completed any DIY projects lately? I must say, I am so addicted to Pinterest, it’s a bit embarrassing!  I swear I do have a life besides pinning.  Are you on Pinterest too?

DIY Weekend – Never Again Look At That Ugly Router

I really, really have a strong aversion for everything wires, cables and anything laying around the house that is an eye sore.  Modems, routers and the alike fall into that category, for sures!

Yes, I am obsessed with homes looking pretty.  And even though I like our abode to look like it is being lived in, there really is nothing pretty about any cables lying around.  What a fantastic idea to use old book covers to cover up anything ‘eye sore’.  Does anyone know whether this is safe or not?  How much air do those electronics need? What about overheating?  Anyone has any experience with covering up modems or anything that flickers and keeps us up at night?
