HOMEREFINER E-EDECOR INTERIOR DESIGN ELFYA FEB27, 2014 2

Feeling inspired by this beach ensemble today.  Makes me want to hop on a bike, ride to the beach, feel the warm texture of soft sand underneath my feet and watch the dolphins jump under the soft glow of a beautiful sunset.  Hmmm….We might need to move to San Diego.

Hotel Barin Ski Resort, Iran

How fun and unique is the Barin Ski Resort in Iran? Mind you it’s one-of-a-kind yet superbly luxurious! Igloo-inspired, the resort’s rooms features walls that look like there is snow from the floor to the ceiling, tub, bed, table, sofa and chairs.

Ok, I know it is kind kitsch but still it is fun!  Well, yeah isn’t that what kitsch is supposed to be?  The pink curtains, comforter and upholstery add such a fun touches to the all-white setting.  This place just makes me smile!

Barin-Ski-Resort-3

And I love how even though designed like an igloo; the lighting seems to be amazing.  Not that I have ever been in an igloo per se so I wouldn’t even know whether it is light or dark inside.  In any case this place, has windows in the ceiling where natural light can go through during the day that make it even brighter than it is already.  Hah!  This place is so unusual and let’s be honest, it shows us a side of Iran that most of us don’t expect.

Jnane Tamsna Hotel Marrakech

What I love when I am in Belgium is that we are so close to all of those beautiful countries that are within 3 hours of travel time.  Whether it’s Spain, Italy or Morocco, it’s like you are in a complete different world without having to sit on a plane for half a day or more.  We need to take advantage of that more often.

Which is what I am telling myself every time I see pictures of Marrakesh for example.  Such a beautiful place.  From its architecture to its spicy perfumes through the Medina and the delicious taste of tajines, there is such a nice combination of refined qualities and some kind of rawness.

Which is reflected perfectly in the hotel Jnane Tamsna.  How beautiful does this place look.  It’s like on one hand it has this very peaceful vibe yet on the other hand it feels very vivid with its bright and colorful fabrics used for the mats, bed sheets, curtains and pillows.  It also somehow makes me think of Irving Penn’s photograph: Woman in Moroccan Palace (which, by the way, was sold for $446,500 at a Christie auction back in 2010 – hello!!!).

Designing With Concrete

Aside from designing, another thing that I love to do is travel. Then again, who doesn’t, right?  Among the countries that I like to visit is Uganda. I love the place a lot and in fact, I even considered moving there! But that hasn’t materialized yet. Anyway, during my last trip there I visited a lot of homes and I noticed (to my regret) that so many of the ‘newer and fancier’ homes have those shiny marble tiles with flowers and ornaments on them!  Do you know which ones am talking about?  You know, the ones that come in all types of colors with lots and lots of shine to them.

All the while the homes that are being considered as “cheaper”, have concrete floors that I love SO much better! I can’t even tell you the laughing fits my Ugandan friends get into when I tell them I love the concrete floors in the ‘cheap’ lodgings so much more than those ornamental ones yet they think it is the funniest thing!

Here are some images that reflect exactly how I feel about concrete floors. I love them! I think they add a touch of rawness to a space and I also love them when polished in either white or sand color. Don’t they give a bit of organic feel to it ?  I think they are so easy to work with and any add style to really any type of decor.  I am sure there are still many homes out there that don’t have tiled floors and only have raw concrete walls. If your home is like that don’t worry because you can consider that an absolute raw beauty!

Designing With Pink

I recently posted about Barbie and her not-so-pink mansion that I came across on Desire to Inspire; but I must confess, I actually really, really love pink! There’s something about this color that makes me very happy because well, I guess it makes me feel girly.

And I know many of you ladies out there would really also love this kind of color scheme in your home right? Your man might not, at first, but who knows he might just grow to love it.

2

Imagine an all pink house! Pink exterior and interior walls, pink bed, sofas and furniture. I know it sounds kind of crazy but look at this room, I think it works wonderfully well.  Pink heaven! But the pink can also be toned down by alternating it with white, cream, peach and even light blue paint and fixtures.

The pink kitchen might look like those dollhouses that we used to have as kids but then again, why not!  Lets go girly all the way.  Personally, I won’t mind it especially with that cute and retro-style Smeg fridge. Would be a perfect center piece in a kitchen.

Designer Angie Hranowsky

How about adding a little flash and splash to our day? I think I have developed a weakness for fuchsia since Madonna wore it on her Confessions tour.  I used to think it was such an old-fashion color but then when she wore it so well, my view about it completely changes.

I guess it also reminds me of tropical flowers. It  just makes me happy.  Like those interiors by Designer Angie Hranowsky , which look so stylish and yet so well lived in.  Such a great mixture of vintage and antiques! The purple is so daring, playful and happy! Shows that Miss Hranowsky doesn’t take herself too seriously and how refreshing that is in the world of interior design!

Pencil Dress Obsession

Today I want to be talking about fashion a bit because I am reaching the end of Suits’ 3rd season and even though I have had my moments where I started getting a bit bored with the story, I have never gotten bored with the outfits! Especially, the ones Jessica Pearson is wearing.

So stylish and always with a bit of that 40’s feel to it. Love the pencil skirts! Especially the ones that go below the knee. Of course, I am sure considering everyone seems to be wearing Louboutins on that show (even the extras in the background…hellooooo!) the outfits must have a hefty price tag as well. Imagine how I felt when I came across heartmycloset ‘s shop on Etsy.

Talk about her collection and also about the fact that she makes dresses customized.   I could totally see Donna wear this!  Another shop that I fell in love with last week is Top Vintage in Holland.  Check out their website for the most sublime dresses and lingerie.  And the other nice thing is that they deliver worldwide! lace-pencil-dress-lSource: www.outblush.com
