Visual ceilings

You know those moments when you are sitting in the dentist chair, looking at the ugly ceiling, counting the cracks or trying to make a story out of any little spot you see.  Don’t you sometimes wish that there would be something interesting hanging above your head so that at least you could try to focus on something else than the sound of a drill in your mouth?  Dentists all over the world, please take note and be inspired by those ceilings.  Now, if you want to add something extra, I don’t know…old love letters or a text from a classic book.  You know, just something to keep our mind off of things, we wouldn’t say no to that either.

Painted Brick Walls

So we decided to paint the walls of our garden over the weekend.  The end result is a white ‘weathered’ look.  We don’t want to start investing in fixing the walls before painting them, which is what we should do if we want to do a good job.  But, it is a rental and all we really want is to have it look less drab as it is now.

 So, shabby will have to do it.  I am sure that with grass, basil, mint and lavender it will look really sweet and we’ll be able to enjoy our garden by the summer.  Have you ever painted a brick wall ? The one on the second picture is pretty shabby as well and I think it looks great against the stark lines of the modern sofa.  It definitely adds life and character.  What do you think?

Communal Tables

I am thinking of making a few changes to our home and get a bigger table to organize design workshops. I love the table that we have right now because it is my granny’s and it really is beautiful besides the emotional attachment that I have to it but it only fits 4 people.  I have been thinking of getting one of those really large ones, you know the communal tables like you see at Le Pain Quotidien that fit 10 people…or more?

I think of them as being those really cozy get together spots for a hot chocolate, a cafe latte with lots of foamy cream and organic bread with ricotta cheese and softly boiled eggs.  Just super duper cozy, imagining  family and friends seated around and chattering about the things that went on their lives the past day or week. That would be a riot!

I also envision them to hang out with a group of artistic women and do crafts and create beautiful things.  I love that they are very unpretentious and comfortable.  And preferably, I would like to have one that has a bit of a rough edge and organic feel to it.  If we decide to do that, we’d definitely will have to make some serious changes to the entire place though because right now living and dining room are gathered together in one room.  Which means, we’d also have to add to our ikea sofa set…hmm..I might have to start with a little visit a visit to the flea market soon and look for a table that is in need for a little TLC

Then again at $250 on average for a thong, they’d better go all out on their decor.  And they did not fail, let me tell you. This place is worth a visit for both men and women. Whether you can afford that Enchante bodysuit or not, you’ll feel seduced from the moment you walk into the store’s parlor.

L’Hotel Paris, a bit over the top but hey! why not?

Who doesn’t love Paris?! I mean, it is the fashion capital of the world and it is where you’ll find one-of-a-kind literature, art and architecture. It’s like at every turn there’s something historic to take note of. It is one of the places I’d love to go back to again and again! Can one ever get tired of Paris? I don’t think so!

If you’re about to decide on a trip to Paris, I’d recommend that you stay at L’Hotel Paris.  Ok, maybe just visit it at  and maybe try and get a peek of the rooms.  Yeah, you get it, the place definitely is not ‘budget friendly’ but it is so worth visiting at least once in your lifetime, if you can.  Even if it were for that staircase only.

Each room is uniquely-designed! No two rooms look alike!  It isn’t that wide but I think that’s the charm of it by maintaining its original look. There are emblems on either side of the entrance and when you are inside the hotel in the center hall and glance up you’ll see the amazing balance of the structure, the division of the rooms and hallways. The walls in the foyer are decorated with sketches by Jean Cocteau  and the celebrities that frequent the hotel are Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Al Pacino line up the walls of the bar.  Yes, I can name drop.

All rooms in L’Hotel are really luxurious! As in an over the top kind of way but really super nice!  I wouldn’t mind to stay at the Mignon Room again with its rich Napoleon III styled décor, damask wall coverings and Japanese-inspired bamboo furnishings. Oh wait! The Bijoux rooms with Baroque and IndoChinese elements look wonderful too!  Even the Chic rooms are very opulent with their silky and richly-colored curtains, bed and pillows.  And! They even have an indoor pool for those who want to unwind after a day going around the museums and galleries.  Ohh I wish my next Paris visit I could stay there.

Let’s Get Tufted

I don’t know about you  but when I think of an interior with tufted elements, the first thing that comes to mind is a chesterfield sofa.  You know the big, brown heavy ones.  Which I actually really love!  Especially in a library or a cigar lounge or something.  Not that I smoke cigars but you know the type of vibe I am thinking about.  Then again, ‘going tufted’ can take you so much further than the Chesterfield.  And who says we have to stick to the classic model anyways?  Why not go turquoise?  I love that hint of contradiction and this chesterfield definitely takes my fancy and I love how it is paired with the pistachio green cabinet.

Of course, as we know, tufted design is not only limited to sofas but can be seen in headboards, chairs, stools and even walls which can on one hand add an element of timeless class and on the other add something very loungy to a room.  Then again, when done wrong it can look soooo cheesy.  I am talking tufted pleather.  Is that even a word actually?  A friend of mine often uses this term and it always makes me laugh as I just imagine this scene of a woman asking the sales man ‘is this sofa leather’ and him answering ‘Euh…no mam, actually it’s pleather’.  Yeah ok, you get the scenario.  Pleather…just sounds so wrong that it sounds funny, doesn’t it?

Anyhow back to getting tufted because before closing off for the day, I want to mention this chair with its matching leg rest in ivory! It looks amazing and I can just picture myself lounging in it on a lazy Sunday whilst reading my favorite book! I just started reading ‘The Lost Art of Listening’ and so far it looks really good.  Anyone read it?
